If you like the mountains Sweet Home is the place for you. Green Peter, Foster Lake, and the Santiam River, are favorite fishing, camping and water skiing spots. Snow skiing is a short drive to Hoodoo Ski Bowl or drive a little farther to Willamette Pass or Bends Mount Bachelor. Sweet Home is most widely known for the Oregon Jamboree, featuring many famous country bands and singers and lasts for 3 days. There is overnight camping facilities near by. And if you like living out in the country but want the convenience of bigger towns near by then Scio's for you.
If you want a more rural feel but still close to modern conveniences Lebanonmay be the town for you. Lebanon has their annual Strawberry Festival featuring the largest strawberry shortcake, in the summertime. Festivities include a downtown parade, and carnival close by. Lowe's just built a large distribution center in Lebanon employing many local residence. Soon to be built is a new teaching hospital drawing more professionals to the area.
